An end in sight, you pin it?

I am currently working on finishing a Bachelors Degree in Technology Management from University of North Georgia and am trying to get through this last semester. I WILL graduate in December of this year.

In my Strategic Management course, for our final project, we are supposed to research and present on a company that was started in the last ten years that is now worth at least $1 billion. Our group chose Pinterest as the company that we would research. During this research, it has been interesting to learn that Pinterest does not sell ads like many other social media sites but does fundraising from investors in order to gain the money to keep the site running. I have been researching what makes the company so successful:
  • It is simple. It uses a virtual bulletin board and pins in which users pick and pin favorite photos that are streaming on the site. Each of these pictures is linked to the site in which the photo originated, giving background information on how to cook/create/piece together the item.
  • It touches the visual stimulation portion of our brains. We enjoy seeing items and not just reading about them. It gives a look into our potential future and not the right now.
  • It speaks to our need to collect things. We can collect whatever we want to our hearts desire and do not have to take up space on a shelf.

What Spare Time?

I work fulltime, attend classes at UNG, and raise my two girls so most of my time is spoken for. However, when I do get a few minutes, I have several hobbies. First and foremost, I love spending time outdoors with my family. We love to go hiking, fishing, and two years ago we bought kayaks and have absolutely fallen in LOVE with it. During the summer, we go kayaking almost weekly. We are also fortunate enough to live in an area that has all of these things accessible to us.

We also really enjoy college football season and spend most of our Saturdays in the fall around the TV watching the games. We usually make this a pretty large affair and invite friends and family over for the day.

A little bit about IT in my life

Most people nowadays are impacted by information technology daily. My life, however, revolves around it. I work in as a Clinical Informatics Analyst for NGHS in Gainesville. Not many people know what that even means. According to HealthCareITToday, a Clinical Informatics Analyst is defined as:

The Clinical Informatics Data Analyst will work independently to document external data acquisition policies and procedures as well as interface with other business units to define and document data needs and ad-hoc analysis requirements.

Basically, I work to use technology to create the most optimal work flow for those that have to work in the clinics. It is my job to get the patient in, out, and on with their lives. Below is a picture that helps put my job into perspective.

Northeast Georgia Medical Center has been named one of the Most Wired Hospitals three years in a row by the American Hospital Association. We use technology to help better serve the members of our community by offering the highest standard of healthcare using the latest technologies. Our electronic health records helps us meet Meaningful Use standards and efficiently keep track of patients' records. We just implemented a new patient portal through Follow My Health that will allow a more direct line from the patient to their provider and health records.

Below is a video giving a little background on the hospital and it's core values.
